Native Hawaiian Rent and Utilities Assistance Program

The Office of Native American Programs (ONAP)

 The Office of Native American Programs (ONAP) administers programs designed to support affordable housing and community development activities for Native Americans, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiians eligible to reside on Hawaiian Home Lands. Native Hawaiian programs include the Native Hawaiian Housing Block Grant and the Section 184A Native Hawaiian Housing Loan Guarantee.

Native American Housing Assistance and Self-Determination Act (NAHASDA)

 The Native American Housing Assistance and Self-Determination Act (NAHASDA) transformed the way American Indians and Alaska Natives were provided affordable housing on rural Indian reservations and Alaska Native villages. The added Title VIII provides similar funding for native Hawaiian families whose total household income is at or below 80 percent of the established area median income levels for their respective counties, and who are eligible to reside on Hawaiian Homelands.

Office of Native American Programs (ONAP)

HUD's Office of Native American Programs (ONAP) administers housing and community development programs that benefit American Indian and Alaska Native tribal governments, tribal members, the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands, Native Hawaiians, and other Native American organizations.

US Department of Veterans Affairs:

The VA focus is threefold: conducting outreach to seek out Veterans in need of assistance, connecting homeless and at-risk Veterans with housing solutions, health care, and community employment services, and collaborating with federal, state and local agencies, employers, housing providers, faith-based and community nonprofits to expand employment and affordable housing options for Veterans exiting homelessness.

U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development-VA Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) Program

HUD-VASH is a collaborative program between HUD and VA that combines HUD housing vouchers with VA supportive services to help Veterans who are homeless and their families find and sustain permanent housing.

VA Home Loans

VA provides direct home loans to eligible Native American Veterans to finance the purchase, construction, or improvement of homes on Federal Trust Land, or to refinance a prior NADL to reduce the interest rate.

Housing for Disabled Veterans

VA provides grants to service members and Veterans with certain permanent and total service-connected disabilities to help purchase or construct an adapted home, or modify an existing home to accommodate a disability. Two grant programs exist: the Specially Adapted Housing (SAH) grant and the Special Housing Adaptation (SHA) grant.

US Department of Agriculture and Rural Development:

Single Family Housing Direct Home Loans

Also known as the Section 502 Direct Loan Program, this program assists low- and very-low-income applicants obtain decent, safe and sanitary housing in eligible rural areas by providing payment assistance to increase an applicant’s repayment ability. The amount of assistance is determined by the adjusted family income.

Single Family Housing Guaranteed Loan Program

This program assists approved lenders in providing low- and moderate-income households the opportunity to own adequate, modest, decent, safe and sanitary dwellings as their primary residence in eligible rural areas.

Single Family Housing Repair Loans & Grant

Also known as the Section 504 Home Repair program, this provides loans to very-low-income homeowners to repair, improve or modernize their homes or grants to elderly very-low-income homeowners to remove health and safety hazards.
